Environmental and lifestyle risk assessment in perinatal healthcare: a national survey of portuguese professionals

We are pleased to share our latest publication in Toxicology and Environmental Health Sciences: "Environmental and lifestyle risk assessment in perinatal healthcare: a national survey of portuguese professionals."

To understand how environmental factors are addressed during the periconceptional period, we surveyed Portuguese perinatal healthcare providers. While smoking and alcohol are routinely screened, we found a significant gap in assessing environmental risks (like chemicals and plastics), primarily due to time constraints and lack of specific training.

This study highlights the urgent need to integrate international guidelines (ACOG/FIGO) and targeted education into routine perinatal care to better protect reproductive health.
